Shipments for Valve’s new handheld console, the Steam Deck, have been trickling since its release, but shipments are about to ramp up. The company began “accelerating” the console on Monday, according to a tweet from Valveand those who pre-ordered the console will receive more emails weekly regarding order availability.
When the Steam Deck launched, those interested in purchasing the console were able to do so through a pre-order system. Depending on how quickly you were able to get in, you may have had an order scheduled for Q1, Q2, Q3 or “after Q3”. Since then, Valve has been shipping purchases in the order customers placed weekly every quarter.
Along with new orders, the company added details about when each quarter can expect its console to ship. According to Valve’s update, the second quarter started on Monday, and the current dates for the third quarter are October 2022 or later. According to Valve, “no reservation windows have been changed or delayed,” and the company is simply providing additional clarification on when each quarter will be.
The Steam Deck is a portable console that lets you play games on your Steam library. Valve released it in February. Ahead of the official release, the handheld was repeatedly delayed, with Valve citing issues with the supply chain and other logistical challenges caused by the Covid-19 pandemic.
