Columbia, South Carolina – Thomas Edward Fuller, by his deep and unwavering faith, entered Heaven on November 17, 2021. Son of George R. Fuller and Eloise Fuller Driggers, Tom was born in Columbia on November 22, 1943. He was educated at the public schools of Columbia, and after graduating he began studying pharmacy at the University of South Carolina where he met his future wife, Mary Jo Floyd of Lake View.
The Fullers moved to Marion, South Carolina in 1973, where they began a long career at Marion Memorial Hospital. He was the administrator of the hospital when it merged with the Mullins Hospital to create the Marion County Medical Center. He was appointed administrator of the new establishment and remained there until his retirement and went into business with his wife at the family pharmacy of the professional pharmacy. During his tenure at Marion Memorial Hospital and Marion County Medical Center, Tom completed graduate studies at Duke University and held leadership positions in many state and national medical associations.
Tom and his family were loyal members of the Marion Baptist Church and worked tirelessly on many boards and committees. He was dedicated to his community and served as Treasurer and Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Marion County Unit of the American Cancer Society. He was a member of the Marion Sertoma Club, the Marion Chamber of Commerce and the Mullins Playmakers. As a friend of the Marion County Museum, Tom and his wife were loyal supporters and worked hard on many galas and fundraisers. The Chamber of Commerce presented its prestigious Community Service Award to Tom for his efforts to make Marion a better city to live.
The surviving Tom along with his 52 year old wife are daughter Catherine Fuller from Daniel Island, son James (Anna) from Columbia and brother Jim (Janice) from Chester, and special sister Martha (Danny) from Georgia. The surviving grandchildren are Marshall Fleming of Daniel Island, Gracie and Mary Elizabeth of Columbia.
Services for Thomas Edward Fuller will take place on Saturday, November 20, 2021 at Dunbar Funeral Home, Devine Street Chapel at 3:00 p.m. with Reverend Wayne Roe officiating. Visitations will take place one hour before the funeral home service. Interment will be in Elmwood Cemetery. Memorials can be made at Marion Baptist Church, 106 S.
