Platform fighting games have grown over the past couple of years, with many developers and franchises trying to fit into the same mold as Super Smash Bros. codified. Although all Super Smash Bros.-inspired has seen the same success as Nintendo’s efforts, the LEGO franchise is making its own attempts with LEGO brawls. This LEGO fighting game has been available on iOS devices through the Apple Arcade service for a few years, but now the game is making its way to other consoles and PCs later this year.
LEGO brawls has a style of play similar to Super Smash Bros., where it is played on a 2D plane with various platforms and obstacles for players to navigate. Contrary to Smash, however, the focus of each game is different, being a King of the Hill style of play with players facing each other in 4v4 team battles. Not only that, LEGO brawls offers a robust character creation system, giving fans the ability to express their creativity. The most recent trailer revealed exactly when fans can start playing on their platform of choice.
This trailer was released on both LEGO brawls and the Bandai Namco Twitter account, featuring an animated CGI trailer showing what players can expect in the game. This includes a variety of settings and characters for players to choose from, such as a desert scene from the Wild West to a pirate ship with gold and treasure. A ninja-themed scene can also be seen before showing the shadow of a dinosaur who is also a playable character in the game. The trailer ends with a shot announcing the September 2 release date.
Fans can currently pre-order LEGO brawls on console or PC, with a demo even available on Steam if a fan is looking to give it a try. For gamers who were looking to play with their friends across different platforms, the Twitter account notes that LEGO brawls supports cross-play. The account also says there will be a standard edition for launch, with even more content coming in seasonal bundles.
LEGO fans are treated well this year, with the release of not only this game, but LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga too. This game was released earlier this year to critical and commercial acclaim, spanning all three movie trilogies of the star wars franchise. LEGO brawls will also likely please the fanbase when it releases in September.
LEGO brawls is available now on Apple Arcade. It will arrive on PC, PS4, PS5, Switch, Xbox One and Xbox Series X/S on September 2, 2022.
