Some of New Zealand’s top athletes are testing their limits in the EVES Surfbreaker Triathlon at Mount Maunganui today.
Olympic bronze medalist Hayden Wilde is just one of the elite participants in this year’s race, which has been held since 1985.
Competitors will use Marine Parade and Mount Main Beach for the race, which features three different distances.
The sprint race will see participants swim 750m, cycle 20km and run 5km; the super-sprint will cover 375m swimming, 7km cycling and 2.5km running while the aquathon will cover 750m swimming and 5km running.
The elite men’s and women’s race takes place over six stages, repeating a 375m swim, 10km bike and 2.5km run.
The sprint, super-sprint and aquathon events start at 7.20am with elite races at 9.10am for women and 9.13am for men.
All races must be completed by 10:15 a.m. and the prize-giving ceremony is scheduled for 10:30 a.m.
There will be road closures and parking restrictions in place on Monday for the triathlon.

Parking restrictions will be in place on Marine Parade to allow bicycle rotation points at approximately 209 Marine Parade.
