Afternoon Museum: The Nehru Memorial in Delhi will become the “Afternoon Museum” | Delhi News

NEW DELHI: The Nehru Memorial Museum, a Nehru-Gandhi family heirloom, has been expanded as “Pradhan Mantri Sangrahalaya” to showcase the life and times of not only the first Prime Minister, Jawaharlal Nehru, but all his successors. Built at Teen Murti Estate, the PM Museum will be inaugurated on April 14, coinciding with BR Ambedkar’s birthday.
All PMs have contributed, must thank them: Modi
Announcing the inauguration of the expanded Prime Minister’s Museum on April 14, Prime Minister Narendra Modi told BJP MPs at the parliamentary party meeting that it is the only ruling party that has recognized the contribution of every prime minister by building a museum to honor them. He shared details of the renovated museum.
“All prime ministers have contributed to the success of the country and we must recognize them,” Modi said at the meeting, sources said. The museum was built on an area of 10,000 square meters at a cost of Rs 271 crore. It was approved in 2018. The museum will feature exhibits related to former PMs like rare photographs, speeches, video clips, newspaper clippings, interviews, and original writings. Officials said adequate space has been allocated for the galleries of 14 former PMs in proportion to their tenure. The BJP has accused Congress governments of highlighting the contributions of the Gandhi Nehru family alone. Modi attacked dynastic politics, saying it violates the spirit of parliamentary democracy. On August 7, Modi had announced the renaming of the Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna award, India’s highest sporting honour, after hockey magician Major Dhyan Chand, sparking a war of words with Congress.
At Tuesday’s meeting, Modi urged party MPs to visit memorials dedicated to the country’s leaders, including the BR Ambedkar Museum, which is also due to be inaugurated on April 14 in the nation’s capital.
BJP leader JP Nadda, Home Minister Amit Shah and Defense Minister Rajnath Singh were among the party leaders who attended the meeting. A series of events have been organized by the BJP from April 6 which marks the party’s founding day until April 14. Nadda discussed the party’s upcoming Founding Day programs including blood donation camps and more.
